with an exhibition of Comic strips, held in the Louvre, Paris, this
is a scholarly & well-researched history of the Comic strip.
The entire history is covered but particularly in America, where
so many immortal strips were created. Among them are, A. Mutt from
1907, Gertie The Dinosaur, Tarzan, Superman Dick Tracy, Flash Gordon,
& numerous others. There is also a discussion about the divergence
of form, between the entertainers, thinkers & general purposes
of the Comic strip. Among the 12 major chapters are such topics
as, The Origins of the Strip, Upheaval Of The Thirties, Comic Strip
Audience, Narrative Technique, Aesthetics & Signification. This
edition is fully illustrated & includes a detailed index. Some
